How Do I Write, Where Do I Start
If the how is where you are stuck, help in just about here.
  • 1
    Take your time to think
What you want to write might not always be what you will end up writing. Take your time to think. Delete the humdrum ones, and retain the curious ones.
  • 2
    First steps
Once you choose your topic or if the theme is chosen for you, then start making mental images of what all you want to write. Let your mirages flow for you. Picturise and form sentences in your minds. The ones you love most, jot them down on your laptop or paper. Once you have a least ten, then you are ready to start writing.
  • 3
    Writing a fairy tale
Every piece of writing has a structure - the darling among all genres is a fairy tale one. There is always a beginning and an end and if the middle is your actual story. Some writers like to make the end abrupt, and some tail it smoothly.
  • 4
    Forget the goal
Do not take the pressure of your goal or objective. Write because you enjoy it. Write because you want to feel free. Write because you enjoy writing. If you keep your goal as your central theme, you will hardly get far because it will interfere with your creative juices. Free your mind, clear it out of baggage, be ready to explore.
  • 5
    Write for yourself to read
When you write, check whether it is something you will want to read if written by another person. If yes, you are probably on the right track. Because that writing will reflect who you really are. Write from your perspective and approach it from your intelligence. Honesty always pays.
  • 6
    Get Feedback
When you have written a bit, ask for feedback. Someone who knows the language and a bit of your goal should work best. Sometimes there is the fear of falling in love with one's writing and an independent opinion can get you right back on track.
  • 7
    Focus on innovation
When you are writing try not to use clichés and mundane phrases - they will only suffocate your writing and for the assessor, it will be a dead space. Everyone enjoys fresh elegances and slants. Find your own.
  • 8
    Quotations and Anecdotes work
Quotations of famous people and anecdotes if you know enough will help lift your work. They bring readers close to your writing. They may trigger personal memories and if you find rare quotes from people highly revered in your area of work - they will give your work a groovy look.
  • 9
    Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary
You may be a novice, but you cannot take grammar, punctuation, or vocabulary for granted. No judge will let go of language lapses. If spotted, you will be seen as an incompetent writer. You may not be a stylish writer, don't even aim for Shakespeare, just be correct.
  • 10
    Read, read, read
The only way to do any writing in life is by reading. Unless you read lots and a variety, you will be stumped for any kind of literary pursuit. Reading expands your mind, your ideas, thinking throws open a wide world for you. Exposing yourself to great writers and essayists will give your writing that unbeatable zest.

  • Is there a registration fee for the competition and why?
    No, there is no fee.
  • What can you review?

  • Can one submit more than one entry
Of course, you can send as many as you would like. You could speak to your college or school for details.
  • How many words does the review need to run?
Well, we leave it to you but if you really need to bring out the writer in you, 400-800 words works perfect – not too little, neither too much.
  • Can I submit work which I have published elsewhere?
Preferably not, we would like fresh stuff, straight from your mind. It is also less complicated for appraisal purposes
  • What is the deadline for submission?
The contest was launched on December 12, 2023 and will close on February 29, 2024
  • Will there be a plagiarism check?
Yes, for sure. Not only manually but technology is also going to be in full swing to make sure that no work in picked up from any source ad verbatim
  • Can one write a funny piece or be downright honest?
Of course you can write a funny piece – it is difficult to make people smile – if you have that talent, go right ahead. About being brutally honest, reflect a bit – we don’t want unpleasantness or abuse – if there is merit, works for us. But remember, finally it is our call…
  • Is there an age limit?
You need too be a teenager – that’s it and hopefully your school or college will vouch for your age.
